Hmmm good argument, just like how it cost Arsene Wenger 1.99 to set up his team, or how Fergusen bought his players 3 for ten pounds at a discount shop...? And while we're at it, is the team u support Arsenal a real English team anyway? Always thought they were playing in the French league...

Hey man whatever said and done the better team won the EPL this year. Say what you want, the EPL has changed forever. Gone are the days of EPL teams being owned and managed by englishmen. Its a rarity to have an englishmen in the team of a premiership these days. Its a shame, but what to do thats how the game is played these days...

fair comments...i think it's a moot point to continue to argue about the merits of supporting a football team even though you don't come from the surrounding area...i mean, it is possible that millions of brazilian fans not from brazil are all just plain idiots right for supporting a country they weren't born in? and sure, we shouldn't even support the American film industry 'cos we're not from there? maybe there's a valid point on supporting the player...just like how we should support a politician who changes parties...big deal about what the party stands for or what it's ideals are...let's support the politician instead even though he's changed sides? yup, very valid point...but i dunno...somehow it eludes me at this moment...and the one about teams being owned and managed by englishmen? that sounds dangerously close to xenophobia to me you know...football's a universal game...and while it is admittedly a sad fact, the most successful managers out there are not from england...owned by englishmen? coming from a man u team that's about to be bought up by malcolm glazer, that's really ironic eh...

Speaking bout Glazer....well if you ask me i think he is a total wanker... but who are we to complain... we are mere fans. the boards of clubs make all the decisions. they say they act in the best interest of the Club. most of the time they forget that they are football clubs... it should not be all about making profits... It should be about the beautiful game... but i guess the more money you have, the more championships you can win... =)

I actually meant that comment in the context that why would should we watch Hollywood movies because we're not Americans (basing it on your earlier rationale that we don't have any valid reasons for supporting a club that is based in England). The whole argument is self-defeating actually. I think people will support a team because of the way they play, or what they have been associated with historically and in the present. It doesn't mean that you need to have a geographical or historical connection or anything. Well, that's my point anyway, maybe one day you can visit Thailand and ask why Liverpool are so popular there, 'cause the last time I checked, Bangkok and Scouse couldn't be more far apart.

I think there are certain factors which compel people to support a club/football team. Amongst them are history, prestige, the name, etc. So when you bring up division 8 teams that don't get any form of exposure other than in the province/city they play in and ask why they are not well supported then I'd just have to say...?

I think most fans are loyal when it comes down to supporting their favourite teams. Let me cite Tommy as a particular example. He was supporting Crystal Palace for years (from the time they were languishing in the 1st and 2nd division till now when they've been relegated from the EPL). Of course there are so-called fans out there who jump ship depending on who's hot and who's not, but those people can't really call themselves true fans.
